The page now says what the board is doing while it installs

Installing from the Firmware tab took about half a minute of silence — a greyed button and nothing else — and a reader wondered whether to refresh. Now the button says Installing and a status line counts "about 26 s, now at N", measured on a real board like the reboot banner's number. Nothing is armed until the board says staged, and the page says that too.

  • The Firmware tab now says what the board is doing while it installs. Installing from a source took about half a minute of silence — a greyed button and nothing else — because the daemon does the whole job inside one request (download the image, check its sum, write it to the spare slot, arm the next boot) and answers when it is done.

    A reader wondered whether to refresh; he did not need to, and now the page says so: the button reads Installing… and a status line counts "about 26 s, now at N", the number measured on a real board like the reboot banner's. Past it the line says the board is still working and that a slow link takes longer. Nothing is armed until the board says staged, and the page says that too.

    This is also the first release built with the new CI: the cross-toolchain comes prebuilt from an image, the Rust packages from a compiler cache, and a firmware build takes about eleven minutes instead of twenty-four. Nothing in the image changes because of that — the compiler is the same binary, built from the same defconfig in the same container — and both boards here are the check.

    Until now the page showed a greyed Install button for the whole of that and nothing else, and a reader on Discord wondered whether to refresh (he did not need to; nothing is armed until the board says staged, and now the page says that too). The candidate's button reads Installing… and a status line beneath the list gives "about 26 s, now at N" — the same shape as the reboot banner, and the number is measured the same way: a real install on board B, v2.37.0 from GitHub, 26 s wall on 2026-09-23. Past it the line says the board is still working and that a slow link takes longer, rather than looking stuck.
